hearing-and-listening

The Number One skill at Vibe Innovation is listening.

So many designers say, “Draw me a sketch of the web pages you want on a piece of paper.”  It’s good if my client does that; but isn’t it the designer’s job to create something both fit-for-purpose and visually stunning?  You can only do that if you’ve understood their business and their aspirations.  That starts with listening.

Team Principal Martin Tomlinson has had his own businesses for over 17 years.  He knows what it’s like to run a small business.

“If you don’t have a clear iBusiness analysis quotedea of where a client business is coming from, you’ll never add value.  So I start with listening.  If you don’t have a clear vision of what a company is doing then you can’t get their website right for them.  Commonly, neither web developers nor their sales people have experience in general business, and they don’t spend enough time listening to what makes your company tick.”

“All too often, developers or sales people will bend and twist your project to suit the technologies they like to use – which is completely backwards.”

As Martin says, “If your only tool is a hammer, every business problem looks like a nail.  At V-Innovation we take time to understand the business needs first, then we break it down into a series of technology  requirements, and then we choose the best technologies.  Usually there are simple solutions, because the range of web technologies available is so vast.  This way, the client gets a simpler, cheaper solution and it all becomes much quicker.”
